AWAZ

AWAZ are a local group aiming to influence policy so that the planning and delivery of services for Cumbria and the North West takes in the needs of the BME people in Cumbria and rural areas. They aim to facilitate the provision of advice, support (individual and group) and training for the BME people to help build their capacity in Cumbria and promote the active participation of BME people and groups in the development of policy at district, county, regional and national level.

Connexions Cumbria has loads of information on subjects like health, money, relationships, work, school and leisure for people aged 13 - 19 and their carers. If you are aged between 13-19, you can also ask to speak to a Personal Adviser in confidence or check out any of their links on their website.

Cumbria Constabulary is committed to tackling the issue of hate crime. The police have Hate Crime Officers around the county that people can contact in complete confidence. You can also report hate crime online.

Cumbria Multi-Cultural Centre

The Cumbria Multi-Cultural Centre is based in Barrow-in-Furness. It provides support to individuals and agencies throughout the County including support and advice to members of the Black and Minority Ethnic population, advice and advocacy on asylum and immigration matters, signposting to appropriate agencies and organizations, access to IT, English as a Second or Other Language (ESOL) courses, women's networking, counselling service and networking with agencies to raise awareness of multi-cultural issues.

Cumbria Development Education Centre (CDEC)

The centre holds a wide range of resources which focus on issues like global citizenship and sustainable development. The centre is a valuable storehouse of ideas for teachers, students, youth workers, community groups and anyone interested in development issues. Books, audio visual packs, posters and photo sets are mostly available on free loan.

The Specialist Advisory Teaching Service aims to provide skilled specialist staff to support schools and settings to promote inclusion and raise the achievements of children and young people with English as an additional language and those with learning needs due to having an interrupted learning experience from a mobile Traveller lifestyle. We also support schools with their race equality ethos and promote multi-cultural educational practices.

County Psychological Service

The County Psychological Service makes its distinctive contribution through applying psychology to help people solve problems and improve learning. This may be at an individual level where young people are having difficulty at school. It may also be at an institutional level, working on wider issues with schools or other settings to help all children be as successful as possible.
