Anger Management

Anger is a normal human emotion and we all experience it in varying degrees in response to certain triggers. It is also a healthy outlet to feelings of frustration and annoyance when it is expressed in a controlled way.

Anger becomes a problem only when it cannot be controlled and when it may result in physical or mental injury to others. Uncontrollable anger can be very upsetting not only for the person at who it is aimed, but often for the person who feels it. The feeling of being out of control is frightening, and learning to identify the reasons for it can help to get to the bottom of the problem. An outburst of rage can be caused by many different things, whether it is another person, an annoying situation such a car breakdown or perhaps a feeling of inadequacy. It may be that there have been experiences in your life which have affected you and which you have bottled up and never come to terms with.

Small children can often only express their anger by throwing a tantrum, and this is because they have not yet learned that there are other ways to get what they want. As we grow up, become young people and then adults most of us learn that aggression will not achieve positive results… but not everyone is able to suppress their angry feelings and find other ways of coping.

Learning how to deal with these feelings is the key to overcoming them. When it gets out of hand, anger can ruin lives and relationships, but learning how to express it in a controlled way can be achieved with the right kind of help.
