Writing a CV

A CV is a short factual outline of your career to date. It gives a potential employer essential information about yourself, your qualifications, work experience, abilities etc. You should adapt your CV to suit the particular job you are applying for but try to include the following information:

  • Personal details - name, address, telephone number.
  • Personal statement.
  • Skills and abilities.
  • Education and qualifications.
  • Work and other relevant experience.
  • Interests.
  • Referees.

To make a good impression:

  • Present your CV on good quality paper (white or cream).
  • Build it on a word processor so it's easy to read and update.
  • Keep it concise, don't use more than two sides of A4.
