Apprenticships

Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships are a Work Based Training route to gaining a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 2.

Suitable for:

  • Young people who do not want to remain in full time education and want to gain skills and qualifications whilst at work.
  • Young people who have achieved GCSE grades at D-F or have no formal qualifications.

Benefits for Employers:

  • By investing in the training of their workforce it is hoped that they can guarantee the economic success of their business.
  • Training programmes can be modified to meet the company's employment needs.
  • Financial support is available from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to help fund training, purchase books, equipment, travel costs, childcare expenses and additional support needed for young people with disabilities.

Benefits for You:

  • A paid job with a training agreement signed by the employer.
  • A 1 to 2 year training programme which will include "key skills" such as literacy, numeracy, communication and information technology.
  • An opportunity to gain a place in a company at the beginning of the career ladder with a possibility of further training.

Further Information

Your local Connexions Centre will be able to advise you on local training opportunities and put you in touch with local training providers who will arrange a suitable training package and introduce you to local employers who are looking to recruit young people.
