Data Protection

Connexions Cumbria will ensure that all staff work to Data Protection Principles which requires information to be:

  • Fairly and lawfully processed
  • Processed for limited periods
  • Adequate, relevant and not excessive
  • Accurate and up to date.
  • Not kept longer than necessary
  • Processed in accordance with the data subject rights
  • Stored securely
  • Not transferred to countries outside EEA

Privacy Statement for Young People

Connexions Cumbria is committed to protecting your privacy. Any information kept about you will be information you have given us when talking to your Personal Adviser. This information will not be passed to anyone without your permission unless there is a legal requirement or duty for Connexions to do so, or if there is a risk of serious harm or threat to your life.

Connexions Commitment

In accordance with the 1998 Data Protection Act, Connexions Cumbria is committed to protecting the privacy of all young people. We ensure that all staff are working within the Data Protection Principles.

Controllers of personal information

Any personal information provided or to be collected by Connexions Cumbria is controlled by Connexions Cumbria Head Office, Hackthorpe Hall Business Park, Penrith, Cumbria

Background

Section 117 of the Learning and Skills Act 2000 places a statutory duty on maintained educational and learning institutions/establishments to provide Connexions with names and addresses of pupils/students and contact details of the parent/carer

Additional information may also be obtained with the consent of the young person when they meet with their Personal Adviser (PA). It will be important that the PA is clear which information is sensitive for gaining consent.

Good Practice Principles

Personal Advisers will:

  • Explain to the young person and agree how information will be used and recorded
  • Seek to gain the young persons consent to record sensitive information
  • Ensure recording is accurate and unbiased as the young person has a right to read it
  • Only seek and record information that is relevant to the intervention
  • Only record comments/opinions that you would feel confident defending

Disclosure of information to external agencies or organisations

Connexions Cumbria will not sell or transfer information to other services for profit.

Sensitive information will not be disclosed to other support agencies/organisations without the explicit, written consent of the young person, unless there is a requirement in law to do so.

Information shared with the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) will be for management information purposes. This will be in the form of aggregate and statistical information and will not include personally identifiable information. If case studies are required, Connexions Cumbria will adhere to the Data Protection principles.
