Connexions Cumbria Personal Adviser wins National Award

Mike Ridyard, Connexions Cumbria Personal Adviser is recognised as Guidance Practitioner of the Year at the ICG National Career Awards held in Belfast, Friday 5th November, 2010.

We are delighted to celebrate the national recognition given to Mike Ridyard, Connexions Cumbria, Personal Adviser for his services to Career Guidance.

Mike has worked in the field of Career Guidance for nearly 30 years, during which time he has taken on specialist roles in schools and FE colleges, with job seekers, young people with learning difficulties and disabilities, and with adult clients.

Mike Ridyard is a Personal Adviser with Connexions Cumbria, currently working at Dowdales School, Dalton-in-Furness, where he also performs the role of Education/Business Liaison Officer.

Mike is highly valued and respected among colleagues and over many years has been a role model for fellow practitioners.  He is a tremendous asset to our organisation, a highly effective link between students and the world of work, and a real credit to his profession.’

The National Career Awards for 2010 recognise and reward outstanding practice and research in the career guidance profession.  These Awards, presented by The Institute of Career Guidance, are a valuable opportunity for practitioners to demonstrate and celebrate the best in career guidance practice in the UK. 

Mike has epitomised excellence in the career guidance profession for thirty years, and remains as enthused and passionate about his work today as he did when first entering the profession.  His career has embraced   work in schools and colleges, in the community with NEET young people, with adults returning to work, facing redundancy or changing direction, in local authority and private careers services and, over the last decade, within Connexions.

One of his colleagues has stated

“If you were to build the perfect careers adviser – the one you would choose for yourself and your children – it would be Mike Ridyard.’
