Homeless

Homelessness is brought about by a person's inability to buy or rent somewhere to live. A person struggling on a low income is not always able to afford housing, and this is especially a problem amongst the unemployed.

This situation can sometimes be created by a change in a person's personal circumstances, for example in cases of divorce or eviction.

Young people are particularly susceptible to homelessness, and without the support of families or friends you may feel there is no alternative other than to live on the streets or in poverty. There are a number of organisations who may be able to help you so make sure you do not face this alone.

In some cases the lack of basic needs can lead to other complex problems such as acute mental health problems, addictions, poor diet or ill health.

If you're homeless, there's a whole network of support out there offering a huge amount of help, including:

  • Housing benefits
  • Local shelters
  • Housing projects
  • Housing rights and housing aid
