Divorce

When parents decide not to be together and split up it can have a huge effect on everyone involved. It can leave you wondering what part you may have played in the break down of the relationship. When one parent moves out it can also leave a gap in your life, one that cannot be filled by anyone else. What comes next can be the scared feeling that if the other party leaves you will be alone.

This can have massive effects on the behaviour and emotions of any child in this situation and at any age. No one can prepare you for divorce but reassurance is not the only emotion parents need to give their child/ren at the time of separation. You may feel neglected adding to the feeling of being alone.

You may find yourself:

  • Feeling guilty
  • Being nostalgic and not letting go
  • Feeling anxious
  • Being sad and depressed
  • Feeling lonely
  • Being angry at both sides

For support through difficult times contact your Personal Adviser or speak to friends and other family members.

Remember both people may be happier apart and the love for you has not changed.
