Post 18 Employment

Employment and training opportunities for advanced level students.

Many young people choose to look for work after completing post 18 qualifications. The evidence is that 18 year olds with higher-level qualifications are popular with employers. In some instances they are recruited and trained through modern apprenticeships.

Opportunities

There are many jobs that are open to students with advanced qualifications. If you choose to seek employment after your present course, you do not have to give up on the prospect of a job, which is varied, creative or managerial, or provides the opportunity for continued training/education. While some firms and organisations, locally and nationally, will target recruitment at students with advanced level qualifications, others ask for GCSE's. However, your higher-level qualifications will be recognised and help you to progress to higher-level jobs and develop your career.

When should I start applying?

Competition for many jobs can be very fierce. It is important you do as much research as possible about a potential employer, especially as those recruiting through national training programs will begin advertising and recruiting shortly after Christmas. Do not leave it too late before you consider making applications.
