Employment Trends

Labour Market Information

One of the most important aspects of our work is the collection of Labour Market Intelligence - what's happening in the world of work, which industries are predicted to grow or decline in future years, where job opportunities are likely to appear etc. If we are to provide effective guidance to young people about their future careers, it is vital we are well informed about local, national and international opportunities.

Our staff regularly visit local employers in order to keep up to date with new developments.

We organise annual "opportunities" Conventions where pupils and parents can meet and talk to employers, colleges, professional organisations, training providers, etc about the opportunities available to them.

Every year we compile a survey of all school and college leavers to find out what they have gone on to do. This information provides a picture of changing labour market trends in the local area.

We produce local information leaflets and contacts sheets dealing with different types of work, e.g. retail or catering, for young job seekers.

We organise seminars and training events for school staff in order to disseminate the latest news and issues about the labour market.

We receive regular bulletins about work trends and future forecasts from government agencies and research institutions, ensuring that all our staff are kept up to date with changing employment patterns.

Contact your local Connexions Centre for the latest information.
